April

I used to try to do a little bit more story-telling with this blogaroo, but I realize at this point in my life, it's going to become a bit more of a photo collection.  Hope that's alright with our readership. Also, I've been less ruthless in my curation efforts.  I figure, the people who most enjoy this blog are grandparents, and what grandparent doesn't enjoy loads of pictures of their grandkids?  If you prefer a more tightly curated collection...I don't know what to tell ya.

Thomas, sweet Thomas was born in March and here it is mid-July already.  We have been having the most delightful summer.  Instead of our epic adventure style of yore, we now are living more in little daily adventures.  Because of that I don't have big trips to blog about, but I do have lots of pictures from our backyard and trails around town.  To me, these are no less beautiful than Thailand or Australia.  There is a different timbre to our happiness now.  It's nice.  It's deep.  It's quite yellow. There have been countless times this summer when I have been sitting in our sunny backyard with the twins hooliganing around and Thomas tucked happily in his car seat while Paul works on a project.  It's in those moments (brief, to be sure...but solid) that I can recognize how good I've got it.  "We're doing it!" I tell Paul.  We are living the way we want to.  That feels good.  And now for some months of catching up.

As soon as the temperatures headed up, we headed outside.  And we haven't looked back.  I didn't realize how cooped up we were all feeling this winter until we got some fresh air in our lungs.  One of my favorite childhood memories is playing in the ditches full of water in the springtime.  I have such poignantly happy memories of seeing how close to the top of my rubber boots I could get the water to go without it spilling in.  Which it inevitably did.  My mom never once got mad about that. So I found myself this spring happily watching my kids get soaking wet and I didn't worry about it one bit!

Yep.  Christmas lights are still up.

We thought maybe since it was spring we would be out of the woods as far as sickness was concerned.  We were wrong.  A few weeks after Thomas was born, we got hit with a round of RSV.  These guys were super sad and sick for a while.  But guess what?!?!  No one ended up in the hospital!  Our pediatrician told us our insurance company should give us a trip to Europe for doing such a good job.  Agreed.

During the illness, and after quite a severe talking-to from Macrina about not giving my kids enough desserts, Esme got her first taste of popsicle.  She promptly turned fluorescent orange.

It was quite a traumatic transition for us when it was time to stop swaddling the twins, so Thomas didn't get much swaddling.  But when he was new new new, we wrapped him up nice and snug.  Esme thought it looked like fun and wanted in on it.  Ever tried swaddling a toddler?

We had so much snow this spring that when it started to get warm it was the perfect moment for a snowman.  This guy lasted about 20 minutes.

We definitely should have dug these tunnels way earlier in the winter.

These guys love Thomas.  Who wouldn't?

Because we are funny people, we took the kids to an Easter egg hunt at...our realtor's office?  We kind of love our realtor and it was fun to show them off as big kids.  And they loved it!

This year we hid eggs for them at home too!  It was fun to watch them be so excited.  Esme tore around the yard with the most intense look of determination on her face.

Just enjoying the sunshine on the front porch.

This is before he looked like Thomas.  Still looking like a baby.

We're all feeling happy they snow has gone away from our south facing front yard!
