Sweet Elixer

Paul came back to Alaska in the dead of winter almost 2 years ago. He brought with him something amazing. He called it..."Hot Tang." Oh dang. It was a gift from his mission president's wife, Sister Sonne. She would always coyly avoid answering pleas for recipes by saying, "Oh, it's just Tang and some spices." When you drink it, you feel funny inside. I had some this morning to ease the pain from the wracking cough that's ripping apart my lungs inside of me.

When we make it we just add "some spices." Usually allspice, cloves, nutmeg...you know. Try it!

My New Favorite Picture of Paul

Beautiful.

Hatcher's Pass

We went blueberry picking in one of my favorite places in the world, Hatcher's Pass. That's the freshest air I've ever tasted in my life. We also plucked some fireweed blossoms to make jelly out of. That was tied for the most beautiful gathering experience of my life. Imagine, gathering blossoms from flowers to make food out of! Our very first attempt at canning. Everything sealed, but only 2 jars of the jelly actually set. Looks like we have a year's storage of fireweed syrup! Sweet.

In Season

MMmmm. Look at the size of those peas!

More

We went fishing again at Sheep Creek. I LOVED it because I had about a million fish on my line. Seriously. They just kept biting and biting and swimming around fiercely with my little hook in their mouth. Then they would spit it out and I wouldn't have to be left to get them off the hook. Didn't bring home any, but had a blast.
