In between the massive amounts of productivity we've been having lately, scratching to-dos off our "Before Baby" list, we decided to take a break. Well, Ezra decided we should take a break, in the form of illness. It was the usual story of Esme got sick, then Ezra. Esme got better, then Ezra got worse. Our first stop was at the doctor's office where we were thrilled to spend the day instead of being sent to the ER. We actually got to go home at the end of that day after many breathing treatments and some improvement. We were really happy.
Alas, about a week later, the sickness returned and this time Ezra Bezra was very quickly in a world of hurt, so off to the ER it was. They got him in right away (which I guess is what happens when you're two and kind of blue because you're struggling to breathe!) and he was admitted to the Pediatric ICU. He spent three nights there with his super dad. We tried to have me stay with him the first night, but it was hard for him to get comfortable on me because of my enormous belly and it was hard for me to get comfortable because of my enormous contractions (that's an exaggeration...but still...), and let's be honest...he just wants Paul.
So the doctors and nurses did what they do and Ezra got better. We are so grateful to live so close to really good care. Hospital stays are no fun for toddlers, but neither is not breathing.
And besides, when else does this guy get to drown his woes in apple juice and Paw Patrol?
Esme was a fantastic trooper. She survived her very first time getting put to bed by someone other than Mom or Dad. Now she often asks for "Esther...help..." when it's time to go to bed. She still had a cold so she got to wear this super cool mask when she was in the halls at the PICU.
It was only 3 nights, but it felt like such a long time for our little family to be so disjointed. Here is Esme in the cafeteria, enjoying some needed daddy-daughter time. Just look at those adoring eyes.
As always, we had an army of the best friends you could ask for surround us with help and comfort. Seriously, our friends are so great. Now Ezra is champing it up with some daily meds to hopefully avoid more hospital stays in the future. Wish us luck!

Well, at least you don't have to worry about teaching that kid resilience. Man, he is a champion.
