Summertime Fun

Things have been hopping around here.  Except right now.  Right now the babes are napping even though they're supposed to be going to bed in half an hour.  Structure Shmucture, that's what I say.  We've thrown caution to the wind and we're letting them do whatever they want.  Mostly because I can't figure out how to do anything else.

Summertime is in full swing.  Well, baby-mode summertime.  It's actually been a very tame summer. We're enjoying this season of our life when we spend more time in the living room than in the backcountry because the company is great.

Ezra loves the trees outside our living room window.  (And yes, Paul has already made all the necessary 'Nam and Crip jokes about my bandana so you don't have to.  It keeps my hair out of my face better than anything else, okay?)

But, we have managed to get out a wee bit.  We enjoyed some downtown festivities to celebrate solstice.  We're like celebrities.  Everyone loves to come see our twins.  It's gotten to the point that I'm a little miffed if we aren't stopped every few steps for some serious adoration.  What's wrong with some people?  Don't they appreciate a cute baby when they see one?  Or two?  Luckily, we're kept pretty happy with non-stop adoring fans.

We took a day trip to Seward.  Our first longish road trip.  Those little guys did great!  They just slept the whole time.  Except when Paul let Ezra take the wheel.  Happy as clams.

It was a cloudy day, but still absolutely beautiful.  I love these guys.

Paul went dipnetting without us this year.  You know...being manly, filling the freezer with fish.  He went with Johnny and some friends to the Copper.  The Copper River is infamous for being big and dangerous.  Stories keep leaking out of Paul weeks later that make me either glad I wasn't there to witness, or wish I was there to enforce some caution!  (I'm sure in reality he was very responsible...)

Those fish sure are good.  Every year by the time summer rolls around again I forget how good the fish taste when they're fresh.  Or else it's been a long time since I've had Copper River reds. DELICIOUS!!!

We have had much excitement of our own on the home front.  All sorts of rolling over, interaction, unassisted sitting and best of all...solid food!

Here are our babies right before their very first taste of oatmeal.  Ezra's pumped.

Esme's a little concerned.  Paul's really excited!

After a few tentative bites, Esme loved it and really went to town.

But Ezra...ha!  I laugh every time I see this picture!

But he's warmed up to it.  Now they both are loving peas and squash. They are quite the delicate diners.

I felt strangely traitorous when I made this Grandma Griffin cake seeing as we didn't celebrate Canada Day at all.  But I still managed to polish it off in a couple days (nearly single-handedly) in all of it's jello-y pudding-y cool whip-y glory!

Paul enjoyed double fisting some babies for Father's Day.

These kids love being outside.

And inside.  They're just happy to be alive!

Shall I send you some headbands?

1. I want to ask you in a few years if you ever get tired of all the attention you get with the TWINS! Because everyone has to ask about twins.
2. That picture of Ezra with the oatmeal looks eerily familiar... Fingers crossed for a good

Eater!
3. Did you know that my Grandma Griffin died on July 1st? I think your cake is perfectly wonderful and not traitorous -- maybe in honor of her? Makes me sad and happy to see her legacy living on with my Canadian/Alaskan friend. :)
