The Farm & Fireworks

In case anyone is wondering, my parents live in one of the most beautiful places in the whole wide world.  I love going home to the farm.  As soon as we pulled into the yard, my breath was taken away with how much I love it there.

This year Levi and Julie came with their families but Ben and Kelsey didn't come because they have their hands full with their brand new twinners!

When we arrived we pulled into the lane at the exact same time as my mom who was just getting home from a week in Wyoming with her family.  Talk about good timing.  Almost immediately Dad took Tony and Paul into Yellow Grass to help set up the town's fireworks for their summer solstice celebration.  They had a blast.

Paul would like everyone to know "a firework goes 100 feet high per diameter inch of the shell.  That big boy is a 6 inch shell.  There were also 2, 3, and 4 inch ones."

Mom, Julie, Eve and I had fun watching from the car.  The rest of the town came out to enjoy the spectacle.  It was surreal for me to see little kids riding their bikes around and just goofing off at the fairgrounds.  They are living my childhood!  Weird.

We spent a week at the farm.  Most of the time everyone worked hard at the projects my dad outlined for us to do on the chalkboard, like he always does.  This year the big project was chopping wood.  I didn't get a picture of it, but they chopped, split and stacked 8 cords of wood for my parents, which should be enough to last them 4 years!!

My brother Levi also had the very thoughtful idea to put in a new shower in the tub so that they would have some delux bathing space out at the farm...something that has been badly lacking.  So Levi, Tony, Paul and Jen worked hard on that after working hard on the wood.

Paul "The Animal Whisperer" found a bird's nest with baby birds in it.

My dad took us out on a nature walk and showed the grandkids the newly planted trees.  Julie and Tony planted one of those little guys the year Eve was born.

We had fun watching the rain in the distance and when it caught up to us I had fun remembering how hard it rains in Saskatchewan.  None of this Alaskan coastal drizzle.  It'll get ya wet in a hurry!

Paul took a gander at the dock in the dugout with Levi's kids.

When we dried off, Eve, Emma and I put flowers in our hair.

Of course there was tractor riding, much to the delight of Grandpa.

There are posts to follow with details of our fun, but the best part was just being home.

And of course, being with my really special family.

My goodness. You do come from a gorgeous place! We have a sister missionary in our ward from Alberta. As all of the Canadians tend to be, she's a great missionary. Nevertheless, when I told her my MTC companion was from Saskatchewan , she giggled and said that she had prayed fervently not to be sent there. I nearly threw her out for both insolence and ignorance. Long live YG!
