The Bamboo Nest

After our elephant adventure we met Nok at the bus station and she took us to the Bamboo Nest where we spent the next few days.  It was pretty far out into the country and it was 100% peaceful.  It also happened to be one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.

It was a group of bamboo huts up in the hills, overlooking misty rice paddies.

The truck ride up there was harrowing to put it mildly.  The "road" was so steep I thought the truck was going to flip over backward.  There was a German couple in the truck with us and the wife said, "Just remember, this isn't the first time our driver has made this drive."  Good point.  But still...harrowing.  This is the village we drove through on our way up.

Once we got out of the truck our heart rates quickly slowed down as we settled into our quiet little hut.

Paul was excited about the mosquito net.  There really weren't mosquitoes though, so that was nice.

We did a lot of hanging out and reading.

The mornings were super foggy.

But it cleared up.

One day I thought it would be fun to go for a hike.

You can clearly see how enthused my travel companions were about that idea.

Lots of bamboo.

Our only wildlife spotting.

We came across this on the trail.

Later that night we enjoyed someone's wood gathering efforts as we sat around the fire.  We ate our meals in a pavilion (?) where all the guests were served at large rough hewn tables.  Man that was great.

I was happy as a clam.

Good job being restful, Bamboo Nest.

That picture of Paul in the mosquito net just might haunt my dreams for the rest of my life.

Other than that, though, this looks just amazing. That last picture is truly spectacular.
