Temples

Brittany did a stellar job of finding cool stuff for us to do and see.  She helped us find a bunch of really beautiful Buddhist temples.  Absolutely beautiful.

The billions of tiny shiny mirrors were spectacular.

We stumbled upon these monks who were hanging wads of string up at very even intervals all over the courtyards and inside the temples.  Someone told us each ball of string was a symbol of a particular prayer that had been said.  It had something to do with recognizing the New Year.  I thought it was so cool.

We went to visit Doi Suthep, a temple on a hill outside of Chiang Rai in the north.  We got there in time for sunrise, but it was pretty foggy, so we just enjoyed the brightening sky.  It was cool to see the temple all lit up in the early morning darkness.

This was a huge scroll with visitors' prayers written on it.

In a lot of the temples people would press little tiny squares of gold leaf on the statues.  Eventually they would be covered in them.  Often the leafs would be left blowing in the breeze.  I love to witness worship.  It feels good to be around people reaching towards the infinite, believing and hoping in something more.

Good job Tour Guide Brittany!

You had quite the variety on this trip, wouldn't you say? It's like you went on 6 different trips. So cool.
