This is where the Pacific Ocean joins the mouth of the Kenai river. The idea is, you walk out into the water and stand there with your huge net held out in front of you. Then you stand there and wait for the salmon to swim into your net. Then you pull it out. The lady that is walking out in this picture here caught so many fish while we were there. The whole beach is covered in tents and fires of families that came to spend the weekend here, gathering in their food for the winter. It's a very industrial feel. The dark dots on the sand are fish heads.
Notice the hip waders. If you ever decide to become Alaskan residents, we would advise the chest waders that everyone else was wearing. When the water's a little choppy, you get soaked. It made for a long cold 3 hours car ride home. Good times!
This is a couple weekends later after Paul and I got wise and got some fancy chest waders from a friend at work. This time we went to the Kasilof River. This is us lookin' fancy in our duds. Much warmer this time.

It's SO great to put pictures to this incredible tale. I love it. The waders are awesome! Can I tell you how happy it makes me that you live in such a beautiful place? No other place could give you these experiences, such a perfect honeymoon, etc. It just wouldn't be right if you lived in, say, New York City. No, that wouldn't be right at all. And as much as I think Boston is beautiful, it probably wouldn't be right for you to live here either. At least not right now. Hmmm. How does this happen?
